    And this is the miracle: I’m finding more and more horses, in my work, whose resistances are stuck in the spaces where their human’s hearts aren’t open.

    And this is the magic: You know that the person’s closed heart-spaces are opening when the horse’s resistances start to lessen.

    I was 57 yrs old, his name was Johnny Cash - though he is not the first horse I purchased, he was the first horse I purchased for myself 😉

    My old gal Ruby was the first horse that was truly mine, and I was 32 years old at the time.

    10. Cutter. An 18hh OTTB (did not know at the time) that promptly bucked me off, (pretty sure I almost touched the sun) and then my mom severely breaking her wrist. The story goes on from there…..

    How old were you when you got your first horse, and what was their name?

    I started babysitting, lawn-mowing and mucking to lease my first horse when I was 12. When I was 16 I became the official guardian of my first horse, Ayla, who is still with me today. She has been the guiding force in my life and the evolution of my horsemanship (and will absolutely take all the credit for it, too).

    Be curious. Stay compassionate. Ask questions, and seek to understand the why behind everything. Find a mentor who can guide you who is knowledgeable and part of your team. Build your trusted team of mentor, vet, bodyworker, hoof care provider and learn everything you can from them. And, don’t forget to have fun with your horses!
