An update about new intakes, as of January 2025:

One of the most difficult things in rescue is saying no to needs in our community. Our commitment to quality and compassionate care, rehab, and training demands a lot of resources – and unfortunately, we’re currently at capacity. 3 Sisters Equine Refuge does not have the budget or human power to take in additional horses right now. We are pausing on new intakes until further notice, allowing us to focus all our energy on placing horses in loving homes.

We understand that other local rescues and animal welfare organizations may also be facing similar challenges, and it may be difficult to find support right now. We are working to put together a few resources for our community to offer guidance and information, grounded in our many years of experience. For now, we’ll share this: We ask you to consider and prioritize the horse’s best interest. Consult with your trusted veterinarian. And take your responsibility as a guardian seriously and thoughtfully. The decision to say goodbye to a horse who is geriatric, in pain, or otherwise suffering is never taken lightly – but it’s at times the most humane and respectful decision one can make as a guardian. We empathize with the emotional weight of this.

No matter the reason, thank you for thinking of 3 Sisters Equine as a soft place to land. We continue to be grateful for everyone who donates, volunteers, and sponsors our work. Your ongoing support is crucial!
